Britney: My Prerogative. My Review.
I'm a her-uge Britney fan. I finally got to hear her new track My Prerogative this week and I'm loving it big time. Here is my review highlighting bits I love.
It begins with a little indian drum thing, and a very brilliant Britney talking bit: "People can take everything away from you. They can never take your truth. But the question is? Can you handle mine?"
The backing track kicks in during this like a twisted and nasty version of I've Just Begun Having My Fun.
"They say I'm crazy, I really don't care" Britney intones. Ace enough as it is. The video makes it a squillion times better by having Britney crash her car in a swimming pool etc. See for yourself at Launch (go to www.yahoo.com) or wherever good music videos are shown.
The first verse slinks along with a very husky vocal from Brit, that builds up to a typical Britney vocal trick just before the chorus.
Which is the biggest change from the typical, it's harsher, robotic and filled with attitude.
Following this is a very Janet Jackson's If crossed with Bloodshy and Avant production riff before vocoder backed Britney takes over for the second verse which has lots of lovely flourishes, after she says "ego trips are not my thing" the backing track makes flying off into space noises. And Britney sings "See nothing wrong.. with spreading myself around" in a brilliantly slutty fashion.
A double of the chorus kicks in before one of the BEST BRITNEY BREAKDOWNS EVER. After Britney intones "It's the way that I wanna live... don't tell me what to do" before the bit crashes and clangs in a sleazy and wonderfully slick fashion before leading into a Outrageous stlye different from the rest of the song vocal where Britney laments not being able to live her life "without all of the things that people say". Could be the 2 weddings in a year Brit. Maybe.
A pause. just enough to catch your breath before someone goes "Oh", the electro guitar kicks in and we're back with robotic take no shit Britney before a computer voices squeaks "It's my prerogative". And that's it.
Can't wait to see the video tomorrow!!

Madonna rocked. Obviously
My in-depth review can be found here: http://www.madonnamagazine.com/tournews/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=735
Best. Concert. EVER.

Songs I'm *hearting* at the moment...

Mousse T: Is It Cos I'm Cool
Love this. It's literally just cropped up everywhere for me in the last week although it's been out awhile. Love the production, the chorus, the lyrics. All of it. So infectious and fun

Girls Aloud: Andrognyous Girls
Their current b-side. Very ace, electro beat, brilliant guitar riff, some mild swearing and great lyrics. Not quite a single in that it's a bit long and tad annoying in places but the chorus more than makes up for it.

Annie: Kiss Me
Again b-side. Very very very different to Chewing Gum. Much longer, cooler and ambient, shows that isn't just a quirky cartoony vocalist.

Ditzyplex at the movies: Honey
Saw this the other night, have to say twas a great little feel good movie.
Review: Honey Daniels (Jessica Alba) is an aspiring dancer who dreams of finding fame dancing in music videos, her big break comes courtesy of a hot video director who gives her big break, but how will Honey balance the new world around her with her commitments to the kids in her hip hop dance class and her neighbourhood?
The plot of this movie is hardly high art but it works much better than I expected. I really found myself getting into the feel good movie vibe of the movie. It helps that it's pacey and looks good and the dancing is stunning. Jessica Alba is a very likeable lead and there are some adorable scenes where she manages to pull of being very funny and likeable (fans of Dark Angel will remember that wasn't something she really got to showcase on the show). Personally I think Alba still hasn't really get the chance to shine in a moive but she works really well in this and she really adds to the moive. Honey is not the most in depth or insightful movie you'll ever see but if you want an upbeat and likeable story that puts you in a good mood (and makes you want to dance) than this is for you. Missy Elliot's cameo is hilarious too.

Why the new Britney video will ROCK!
Britney's new video looks set to be fairly flipping good. Why? 1: Jake Nava is directing it.
Nava has done 3 out of the last 4 Beyonce videos (that's Crazy in Love, Baby Boy and Naughty Girl in case you were wondering), Kylie's Red Blooded Woman, Holly Valance's State of Mind (which if you've seen it you'll know is one of the best "slutty pop tart" videos ever), Enrique and Kelis' Not In Love (which is easily one of the most visually stunning videos this year) and Usher's Burn (oh dear... well nobody's perfect!). In other words, he knows how to make girly pop stars look their best and make videos slick and different.
2: The track is produced by Bloodshy and Avant who've done some rather fabulous songs for Miss Spears namely: Showdown, I've Just Begun Having My Fun and another you may have heard of called Toxic
3: It has a budget of 7 something million dollars. We all know that music videos with lots of money spent on them always look very swish and therefore this video will and be very good indeed.
4: The song is all about Britney telling people to let her live etc etc so therefore it's Britney pointing 2 fingers at people and being ace, but the video will cause controversy too (from what I've heard) so therefore she'll be inviting more comments and therefore the video will also be highly ironic. Hoohah.
So you see readers this video will be fabtastic and will piss all over the competition when it arrives. It's simple really.

*insert obligatory, sorry I'll post here more often comment*
Well dears, lets go through some of my favourite songs doing the rounds on radio at the mo....

Girls Aloud: Love Machine
Oh my! This is so so good. Think McFly, Jet and Girls Aloud stuck in the master pop producer Xenomania's cauldron of pop genius and you're close to the aceness of this track. The lyrics are kooky and fun and the track feels a million times more fun that pretty much everything else on the radio. *heart* it!

Annie: Chewing Gum
Every one on popjustice loves it and I can see why, it took me a few listens but this fun little electro-y piece of Richard X driven pop is lovey. I love the quirky "girl talking to her self about gum chewing habits" lyrics and the backing track clicks and whirrs in all the right places. Luffely.

The 411: Dumb
Hmmm. It sounds better in the shampoo ad but there is still lots to like in this song, namely the backing track which rattles along and is apprioately funky, the chorus is hooky as a very hooky thing but some very trite lyrics and bland vocals let the song down. Still exetremely catchy though and it's slowly taking over my radio so watch for it...

V: Hip to Hip
I know it's been around for ages and ages but radio in Ireland (namely one "yoof" station here) has only picked up on this now, and I love it. I'm very anti boyband mainly because they're nearly all boring etc etc but this is catchy and fun and makes me think that the hype on V might for a change be justified.

and finally honourable mention to one of my fave albums of the moment, namely Janet Jackson's The Velvet Rope which I'm convinced is an absolutely classic and is definitely a ringer for my 5 fave albums...ever!! Go seek a copy in "all good record stores."
That's all for now kids, let's hope I get the discipline to write on this more often.

Sorry!
It has been so long since I posted here!! I'm going to try my best to maintain a more regular stream of posting on this blog. I think I need the practice about having some kind of discipline...

So anyway, good news folks: I'm going to see Madonna! Hurray!
I'm going on the 29th of August to see her at Slane Castle. Which funnily enough is the night the VMA's air in the States so I'm willing to be there'll be no surprise Madge performance this year.

Anyway some outdated news/commentary:
Kelly Osbourne to go all snyth/80's pop for next record
From MTV.com : http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1485521/03032004/osbourne_kelly.jhtml
This sounds oh so very ace. Personally speaking I'm interested in anything Linda Perry post Pink/Xtina and the electro sleaze genius of Britneys "Girls and Boys". Here's hoping it delievers!

Jessica Simpson- Forbidden Fruit
Finally strangled cat reality tv warbler Jessica strikes pop gold! I was sent this stunning electro-y pop track and it's stunning. It's so funky and catchy. It sounds like something Britney should have put on In the Zone instead of that wannabe Jamaican/hip hop star stuff she went with.

Well that's all for this moment in time. At least something new was actually put in!!

Britney's New DVD
Well I got Ms Spear's new DVD on Saturday. Called In the Zone. How original. Anyway it's quite good. There is nothing really new on it but the performance stuff serves as a nifty teaser for the tour and the bonus CD is MIGHTY. I'm so very glad I picked it up.
Speaking of Britney I watched some of the Miami concert today. I shouldn't have now I've spoiled bits of it.. Oops.

The Next Big Summer Song?
Dear readers I think Janet Jackson just might have the next big summer song in her sweaty just-torn-of-my-clothes-for-my-album-photoshoot hands. All Nite (Don't Stop) is a slinky and funky party track that I think is going to be a single and it should be. This song could be all over the radio this summer. *crosses over*
Britney on TRL/Everytime video
Miss Spears will be on MTV TRL (UK) on Wedensday May 5th. This will be the video premiere too. How exciting!

JC Chasez-Schizophrenic
Got this yesterday. Haven't complelted digested it (sonically mind, in case you think I swallow CD's whole) So far though it should be noted probably next single All Day Long I Dream About Sex is ACE. It's worth buying for this alone... Full review soon.
Britney
Ms Spears current video Everytime looks very stonking indeed. All eerie and "comment on my private life-y". Except I haven't seen it yet. Because it seems MTV UK don't really give a crap? Um why? I can't download it and it's getting v. annoying having to wait for it. Sigh... in other Britney news the next single looks to be Breathe On Me. YES! Also Everytime the single release looks set to have a b-side too. Finally!
Madonna's first Irish gig. In a big field. In a small town. For 140 euro(!)
Madonna is coming to Ireland! Yay! She's playing Slane Castle Co. Meath. Slane is an annual event in Ireland and is usually one big star headlining with others supporting. A bit like an all day festival. However this year it looks as if M only will play and tickets will cost around €140. So she can make 98.5% profit or somesuch. Excuse I know tickets have been this expensive everywhere else but Madonna's not playing in a big field in Paris is she? So why is she charging this much? Seems greedy to me. If this ticket hiking madness stops me from going I shall be v. pissed.

Sorry for the lack of posts
Sorry dear readers for the lack of posts on this blog, I will try and not be so slack in the future. (Not that anyone cares)
Songs I'm hearting at the moment
JC Chasez- Some Girls (Dance With Women)/Blowin' Me Up (With Her Love): My goodness what a set of fabulous tunes Mr Chasez has blessed us with for his first (double A-side) single. Both tunes are very fresh (even Blowin Me Up which was released in Dec 2002 in America (!) ) and different. And buzz is good on his album which I hopefully shall be recieving next week. Hurray.
Christina Milian-Dip It Low: Another fresh tune and a huge turnaround from what Miss Milian brought us before. I love the beat to this as it's both uptempo and sexy/slow at the same time. Great chorus.
Kelis- Trick Me: A bit more subtle compared to the (wonderful) Milkshake but a cool tune nonetheless. I do love the odd little noise in the background.
that is the pick of the new tunes on le radio at the mo. More soon I suppose.

Fountains of Wayne in surprisingly poptastic SHOCKER
Ages ago I heard several tracks from Foutains of Wayne's new album Welcome Interstate Managers. I loved what I heard. Much later when Stacey's Mom broke I liked it but I knew they had much better on the album. I got it last week and I was right. This album for the most part is poptastic. The kind of thing Busted wish they could produce. Sweet lyrics, hooky melodies and guitars that fit and don't sound neutered. The album is a great piece of guitar pop and from someone like me that is saying something. Hunt said album down. Pronto!

Oh no, Atomic Kitten have split!
Atomic Kitten have announced that they are "taking a break" today. Split, in other words. Anyway this should mean no more bland awful pop on the radio (from them at least) But to give the girls their due they did have one mighty, mighty song under their belt. Be With You. Hark yourself back to the time when it was out. Remember how shockingly good it was?
Okay, now that *that's* finished we can safely say that Atomic Kitten were crap. Good night girls!
If that horrible news has left all upset, why not cheer yourself up with this amusing picture of Will Young and a Will Young lookalike:

The Shocking Story behind this photograph
Billy the koala had been so lonely all his life, fatherless since birth. He never expected love to ever come his way again until that fateful day where right in front of him he saw a sight he never expected to see... "Daddy?"

Britney: The Onyx Hotel Tour....
How excited am I at the thought of Britney's tour coming to Ireland? Answer: VERY. But for a while there thanks to those feckers at ticketmaster.ie, I nearly didn't get excited because the website played up big style. Anyway I've got tickets now and can safely say that I can't wait for the 3rd of June. To whet your appetite head over to UKBritney.tv (link to your right) visit photos and check out the images from the onyx hotel tour ad. Oooh, you'll go all gooey inside.

Sound of the Underground VS Sound of the Underground
Well I managed to get my hands on the reissued version of Girls Aloud's Sound of the Underground yesterday, and to be totally honest I can't say which one is better. The original is still the better album. It just fits together so well. and besides pop albums rarely have covers this ace:

Having said that, the reissue has the rather fecking brilliant You Freak Me Out on it which is so so ace! Very addictive chorus and a much harder guitar sound than their other songs (it's not that hard mind, they're hardly Metallica)
The reissue is worth it for the 3 new tracks and the video if you buy it for a decent enough price. To buy each of the singles (if YFMO actually gets released) would work out the same and when you factor in the ace videos it's not a bad purchase. Having said the original feels more like an album. and the cover is decidely less ace:

In other news Victoria Beckham's Let Your Head Go is still an ace pop song that I can't seem to tire of. The middle eight is genius. Buy it now!!

Again my apologies for being so insanely Britney centric, this will die down soon. Anyway Britney is definitely coming to Ireland! To start her tour. Oh god I'm so happy. In other news The Toxic Vid looks mighty check out caps at www.ukbritney.tv
that is all, non Britney stuff coming soon!

Monday, January 12, 2004

OMIGOD!!!
Britney is doing a UK Tour! Which is fab news if you live in the UK but you know what not so fab if you live in Ireland where she isn't coming. I mean really, don't come to Ireland where your records sell more and you are just as if not more popular.
GGGRRRRR
p.s. I promise some non Britney entries soon :>)

Sunday, January 11, 2004

Well hello there! Obviously I haven't blogged here in quite awhile, but I think 2004 will be the year the Ditzyplex Blog and the Ditzyplex FanArt site happen! and I mean happen! It could be the start of the Ditzyplex explosion, I can see it now, T-Shirts! Dolls! Video Games! Movies! Kind of like the Britney Spears global brand bandwagon that sprung up when she first hit the big time. Speaking of Britney this leads nicely into the next part of the blog (Didja see what I did there? :>) )
Britney is under huge flak for her "publicity stunt" wedding, but personally I think that it was a mistake that could compleltely ruin any chance of people taking Britney's music seriously. Her next single Toxic, looks to be put back, a clip of the video wasn't shown on TRL USA today as was expected but details on her tour were announced. The video is still planned to air next week but if the singles delayed it could all go horribly especially if there's no promotion for the single.(Her people can obviously smell the bad interviews a mile off) Hoepfully the song will do well, Toxic is an ace pop tune whatever your feelings about Britney maybe.
