Britney: My Prerogative. My Review.
I'm a her-uge Britney fan. I finally got to hear her new track My Prerogative this week and I'm loving it big time. Here is my review highlighting bits I love.
It begins with a little indian drum thing, and a very brilliant Britney talking bit: "People can take everything away from you. They can never take your truth. But the question is? Can you handle mine?"
The backing track kicks in during this like a twisted and nasty version of I've Just Begun Having My Fun.
"They say I'm crazy, I really don't care" Britney intones. Ace enough as it is. The video makes it a squillion times better by having Britney crash her car in a swimming pool etc. See for yourself at Launch (go to www.yahoo.com) or wherever good music videos are shown.
The first verse slinks along with a very husky vocal from Brit, that builds up to a typical Britney vocal trick just before the chorus.
Which is the biggest change from the typical, it's harsher, robotic and filled with attitude.
Following this is a very Janet Jackson's If crossed with Bloodshy and Avant production riff before vocoder backed Britney takes over for the second verse which has lots of lovely flourishes, after she says "ego trips are not my thing" the backing track makes flying off into space noises. And Britney sings "See nothing wrong.. with spreading myself around" in a brilliantly slutty fashion.
A double of the chorus kicks in before one of the BEST BRITNEY BREAKDOWNS EVER. After Britney intones "It's the way that I wanna live... don't tell me what to do" before the bit crashes and clangs in a sleazy and wonderfully slick fashion before leading into a Outrageous stlye different from the rest of the song vocal where Britney laments not being able to live her life "without all of the things that people say". Could be the 2 weddings in a year Brit. Maybe.
A pause. just enough to catch your breath before someone goes "Oh", the electro guitar kicks in and we're back with robotic take no shit Britney before a computer voices squeaks "It's my prerogative". And that's it.
Can't wait to see the video tomorrow!!

Madonna rocked. Obviously
My in-depth review can be found here: http://www.madonnamagazine.com/tournews/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=735
Best. Concert. EVER.

Songs I'm *hearting* at the moment...

Mousse T: Is It Cos I'm Cool
Love this. It's literally just cropped up everywhere for me in the last week although it's been out awhile. Love the production, the chorus, the lyrics. All of it. So infectious and fun

Girls Aloud: Andrognyous Girls
Their current b-side. Very ace, electro beat, brilliant guitar riff, some mild swearing and great lyrics. Not quite a single in that it's a bit long and tad annoying in places but the chorus more than makes up for it.

Annie: Kiss Me
Again b-side. Very very very different to Chewing Gum. Much longer, cooler and ambient, shows that isn't just a quirky cartoony vocalist.
